Third suspect arrested in 2009 attempted murder, kidnapping
A 28-year-old Ville Platte woman was charged Friday with attempted murder and kidnapping in connection with a 2009 incident in Youngsville, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
A Houma woman was also arrested last week in the same case, and another suspect was arrested in 2010.
—Julie A. Menard, 28, of the 300 block of Belair Love Road in Ville Platte, was arrested at 12:48 p.m. Friday on a warrant charging her with attempted second-degree murder, principal to aggravated kidnapping and obstruction of justice.
A correctional officer transported Menard from the Ville Platte Police Department to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center on the warrant. Menard was released on a $10,000 recognizance bond.
The warrant stems from an investigation into a September 2009 incident when a deputy found an injured woman walking on La. 182 near Allain Road. Working with the Youngsville Police Department, the detective assigned to the case identified three suspects in the crime, including Menard, Lionel Pellerin and Chantel Guillotte.
Guillotte, 37, of Houma, was arrested May 16 on a warrant for attempted second-degree murder and aggravated kidnapping. Pellerin was arrested on a warrant for attempted second-degree murder and aggravated kidnapping in July 2010.
The detective collected evidence that three suspects that the victim knew forced the victim into a vehicle at a home in Youngsville and struck her repeatedly. The suspects then drove to St. Mary Parish, forced the victim out of the vehicle, continuing to hit her, and then left the victim. The victim was treated for a broken jaw and other injuries at an area hospital.
Hebert reported responding to 113 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Charles Adams Jr., 64, of the 1200 block of Prairie Road Circle in Verdunville, at 9:35 p.m. Sunday on the charges of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, cultivation of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a firearm in presence of a controlled dangerous substance and transactions involving drug proceeds.
Deputies conducting a follow up investigation at a residence detected the strong odor of marijuana. Deputies received consent to search a bedroom belonging to Adams. Adams admitted to deputies that he had marijuana in the room.
Deputies located multiple containers of marijuana and a handgun along with several items of drug paraphernalia, including a scale, pipes, small plastic bags, and rolling papers. Deputies also found $800 in cash suspected of being derived from illegal drug sales.
Deputies received consent to search the shed where deputies initially made contact with Adams and located a large marijuana grow. Among the components of the operation were 53 live plants, lights, fans, and drying racks. Deputies also located loose marijuana and marijuana plant clippings in another room in the shed. Adams was booked into parish jail with no bail set.
—Jose Melendez, 31, of the 100 block of Village Lane in Amelia, at 10:48 p.m. Friday on the charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, speeding, no driver’s license, and possession of open alcoholic beverages in motor vehicles. A deputy traveling on La. 182 on the Greenwood overpass observed a vehicle moving at 66 mph in a 45 mph zone.
The deputy made the traffic stop and spoke with the driver, Melendez. The deputy smelled the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on Melendez. Melendez performed poorly on a field sobriety test and later registered 0.136 grams-percent blood alcohol concentration on a breath test. Melendez was booked into parish jail and released on $2,500 bail.
—Tyler Scully, 23, of the 500 block of Joey Street in Patterson, at 2 p.m. Saturday on the charges of no insurance and expired vehicle registration. A deputy patrolling Bayou Vista observed a vehicle with a large crack in the windshield and conducted a traffic stop on U.S. 90.
The deputy made contact with the driver, identified as Scully, and found that he was operating the vehicle without insurance and expired registration. Scully was released on a summons to appear in court Aug. 29.
—Donald Wages, 58, of the 7200 block of U.S. 90 in Morgan City, at 9:40 p.m. Saturday on the charges of stop sign violation and possession of a Legend Drug without a prescription.
A deputy patrolling Bayou Vista observed a driver fail to stop at a stop sign on Southeast Boulevard and Middle Road, and conducted a traffic stop. The deputy made contact with the driver, identified as Wages.
During the traffic stop, the deputy located the Legend Drug hydroxyzine pamoate inside the vehicle. Wages was unable to provide a prescription for the drug. Wages was booked into parish jail and released on $1,750 bail.
—Elder Portillo-Vijil, 29, of the 1400 block of Barrow Street in Amelia, at 3:20 a.m. Sunday on the charges of disturbing the peace intoxicated and resisting an officer.
A deputy responded to a report of a fight at a residence on Village Lane in Amelia. While investigating the complaint, Portillo-Vijil got into a vehicle and attempted to drive away from the area. As the deputy detained Portillo-Vijil, he pulled away from the deputy.
The deputy also smelled the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on Portillo-Vijil, who was booked into parish jail. He was released on $2,000 bail.

—Daniel Scully Jr., 40, of Belanger Street in Morgan City, at 1:49 a.m. Saturday on the charges of creation of a clandestine laboratory, operation of a clandestine laboratory, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of uniformed controlled dangerous substance laws – drug free zone.
—Lee M. Boudreaux, 41, of North Verret Street in Amelia, at 1:49 a.m. Saturday on the charges of creation of a clandestine laboratory, operation of a clandestine laboratory, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of uniformed controlled dangerous substance laws – drug free zone.
—Aaron J. Boudreaux, 40, of North Verret Street in Amelia, at 1:49 a.m. Saturday on the charges of creation of a clandestine laboratory, operation of a clandestine laboratory, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of uniformed controlled dangerous substance laws – drug free zone.
Narcotics investigators executed a search warrant at an address on Belanger Street and located three subjects identified as Scully, Lee Boudreaux and Aaron Boudreaux. Police searched the home and located an active clandestine methamphetamine laboratory, suspected methamphetamine and numerous items of drug paraphernalia.
A professional cleaning company was summoned to the residence, and the hazardous materials were recovered for disposal. The location of the incident was within the area of a local school, which is in violation of uniformed controlled dangerous substance laws. All three men were jailed .
—Myles Morgan, 28, of Front Street in Morgan City, at 1:20 a.m. Sunday on the charge of disturbing the peace intoxicated.
Officers responded to an address on Front Street in regards to a call of a disturbance. The officers arrived when they were told by the complainant that Morgan, who had left the home moments prior, was causing a disturbance. Officers located Morgan in the area moments later and suspected him to be intoxicated. Morgan was jailed .
—Stanley Ruffin Sr., 48, of Second Street in Morgan City, at 3:10 p.m. Friday on the charge of driving under suspension.
A patrolling officer observed a subject known by the officer as Ruffin operating a vehicle on Sixth Street near Gen. MacArthur Street. The officer knew Ruffin had a suspended driver’s license and conducted a traffic stop. Ruffin was jailed .
—Jose M. Martinez-Moralez, 40, of Franklin Street in Morgan City, at 10:48 p.m. Friday on a warrant charging him with theft less than $750.
Martinez-Moralez was located at an address on Brashear Avenue where he was arrested on an active warrant. The warrant was obtained as a result of an investigation of an alleged theft at a convenience store on Federal Avenue, which was reported March 14. Matrinez-Moralez was jailed .
—Cody Gibbs, 20, of Glenwood Street in Morgan City, at 11:23 p.m. Saturday on the charges of simple battery and entering or remaining in places after forbidden.
An officer responded to an address on South Railroad Avenue in regards to a call of Gibbs causing a disturbance at the location. The officer arrived and spoke with a subject later identified as a victim of a battery along with a witness to the incident.
The officer was told that Gibbs, who left the area prior to the officer arriving, was at the location causing a disturbance when he allegedly committed a battery on the victim. The officer was also told that Gibbs was barred from the location due to a similar previous incident.
Officers found Gibbs in the area moments later and questioned about the incident. Gibbs was jailed .
—Jeremy A. Voisin, 29, of M Street in Patterson, at 11:27 p.m. Sunday on the charges of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, and violation of uniformed controlled dangerous substance laws in a drug free zone.
—April N. Voisin, 31, of M Street in Patterson, at 11:27 p.m. Sunday on the charges of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and violation of uniformed controlled dangerous substance laws in a drug free zone.
Officers conducted a traffic stop on Tupelo Street at Levee Road on a vehicle that was believed to have been involved in a prior incident of an alleged aggravated second-degree battery investigation.
The vehicle was detained while Morgan City Police Department detectives obtained a search warrant for the vehicle. A search of the vehicle located suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia inside.
The location of the incident was within an area marked drug free zone, which is in violation of uniformed controlled dangerous substance laws.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Jeremy Voisin and the passenger, identified as April Voisin, were placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Jail where they were booked and incarcerated.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrests:
—Seth Matte, 22, of Pond Drive in Morgan City, at 4:10 p.m. Friday on the charges of speeding 36 mph in a 20 mph speed zone, driving under suspension, resisting an officer by giving false information, possession of methamphetamine and suboxone, and a warrant with St. Mary Parish Sheriff Office for two counts of monetary instrument abuse.
Matte remains jailed. No bail is set.
—Joseph Hart, 34, of Versen Street in Berwick, at 8:41 p.m. Saturday on the charges of license plate light required, possession of zolpidem, and a warrant with Morgan City Police Department for failure to appear for domestic violence.
Hart remains jailed. No bail is set.
—Deqwavia Hall, 30, of Versen Street in Berwick, at 8:41 p.m. Saturday on the charges of resisting an officer by giving false information, warrants for simple battery and for disturbing the peace, and warrants with Morgan City Police Department for failure to appear for domestic violence.
Hall remains jailed. Bail is set at $920.
—Michael Martin Jr., 33, of Second Street in Berwick, at 5:11 a.m. Sunday on the charges of driving under suspension and improper lane usage. Martin was released on bail set at $1,250.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrest:
—Mark Smith, 52, of the 500 block of Myrtle Street in Patterson, at 4:49 a.m. today on a charge of theft by shoplifting under $100. Smith remains jailed. Bail is set at $427.
Chitimacha Police Chief Hal Hutchinson reported the following arrests:
—Elton Pinn, 32, of St. Clair Street in Morgan City, at 3:35 a.m. Saturday for unlawful use of state issued ID to enter gaming facility. He was released on a summons.
—Kevin Roberson, 27, of Terrebonne Street, Morgan City, at 3:35 a.m. Saturday for unlawful use of state issued ID to enter gaming facility and was released on a summons.
