Two people cited and accused of shoplifting in Bayou Vista
Two Tri-City area women were arrested Tuesday and accused of shoplifting in Bayou Vista, St. Mary Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Carrie Hubler , 27, of the 300 block of Leona Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 5:27 p.m. Tuesday for theft of goods.
—Peggy Fabre, 49, of the 4000 block of Francis Street in Berwick, was arrested at 5:27 p.m. Tuesday for theft of goods.
A deputy responding to a complaint of shoplifting at a store in Bayou Vista collected statements and other evidence that Hubler and Fabre concealed items in a purse and left the store without paying for the goods.
Hubler was located at the store. The deputy found Fabre at her residence. Both subjects were released on a summons to appear in court May 27.
Hebert reported responding to 44 complaints and reported the following arrests relating to east St. Mary Parish:
—Kerry Sons Jr., 24, of the 300 block of Oregon Street in Berwick, was arrested at 2:54 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for distribution of marijuana.
Sons turned himself in at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center in Centerville. This arrest is part of the March 16 Spring Cleaning operation.
—Leslie Matthews, 41, of the 100 block of Friendship Alley in Amelia, was arrested at 4:23 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for public intimidation.
On March 19, Matthews called the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office and made a verbal threat against the life of a specific deputy.
While responding to a separate complaint, a detective made contact with Matthews at her residence and located the active warrant for her arrest. Matthews was transported to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.
—Melvin Thibodeaux, 48, of the 1400 block of James Street in Siracusaville, was arrested at 1:28 a.m. today on the charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and traveling in the left lane.
In addition, Thibodeaux had three Morgan City Court warrants for failure to appear on the charges of resisting a police officer, driving under suspension, and contempt of court.
A deputy traveling on La. 182 in the Morgan City area observed a vehicle swerving and driving in the left lane without passing or turning.
The deputy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, identified as Thibodeaux.
While speaking with Thibodeaux, the deputy smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath and observed other signs of intoxication. The deputy administered a field sobriety test. Thibodeaux conducted the test poorly.
The deputy also located active warrants for Thibodeaux’s arrest from Morgan City Court. Following the traffic stop investigation, the deputy transported Thibodeaux to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.
—Desmond Richard, 34, of the 300 block of Mike Drive in Patterson, was arrested at 3:25 a.m. today on a warrant for criminal damage to property, criminal trespass, and disturbing the peace (offensive language).
In November, a deputy was dispatched to a complaint of property damage at a residence in Centerville.
During the course of the investigation, the deputy collected evidence that Richard went to the residence of a female victim who he knew and began yelling and beating on a window, breaking the glass.
The deputy obtained a warrant for Richard’s arrest. Early this morning, another deputy developed information regarding Richard’s whereabouts and located him on Hickory Street in Patterson on the warrant.
Richard was transported to the parish jail for booking. Bail is set at $1,250.
Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrests:
—Desmond J. Richard, 34, of Mike Drive in Patterson, was arrested at 9:31 a.m. Tuesday on a charge for violation of a protective order.
Richard also had three warrants for speeding in a school zone, driving without a driver’s license, and resisting an officer by giving false information.
An officer responded to an address on Third Street in regard to a complaint that Richard was at the location and in violation of a protective order.
The officer arrived when a vehicle described as Richard’s vehicle was observed leaving the area. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver identified as Richard.
An investigation was conducted and it was determined that Richard was indeed at the complainant’s residence and in violation of a 16th Judicial District Court protective order.
A warrants check revealed that Richard also had active arrest warrants with the Morgan City Police Department. Richard was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Jail where he was booked and incarcerated.
— Gersson S. Viniegra, 31, of Catherine Street in Patterson, was arrested at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday on warrants for failure to appear for disturbing the peace and probation violation.
Viniegra was arrested in the 6th Ward Morgan City Court. It was related to active arrest warrants held by the 6th Ward Morgan City Court. Viniegra was booked into the Morgan City Jail and incarcerated.
—Vinny P. Verret, 28, of Third Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 4:20 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for contempt of court.
Verret was arrested in the 6th Ward Morgan City Court. It was related to an active arrest warrant held by the 6th Ward Morgan City Court. Verret was booked into the Morgan City Jail and incarcerated.
—Brennan N. Skinner, 49, of Grace Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for contempt of court.
Skinner was arrested in the 6th Ward Morgan City Court. It was related to an active arrest warrant held by the 6th Ward Morgan City Court. Skinner was booked into the Morgan City Jail and incarcerated.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
