Coast Guard unit to hold change of command Friday
U.S. Coast Guard Capt. Blake Welborn will formally become the new commanding officer of Marine Safety Unit Morgan City Friday during a ceremony at Morgan City High School, making his second stop in Morgan City with the Coast Guard.
The Change of Command Ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. when Welborn will officially relieve Capt. David McClellan as the marine safety unit's commanding officer.
McClellan will be transferring to District 14 Prevention Department in Hawaii. Welborn will be the Morgan City Marine Safety Unit's commanding officer for the next three years. There will be a reception immediately following Friday's ceremony.
In 2010, Welborn became executive Officer of Marine Safety Unit Morgan City, where he supervised more than 110 members performing inspections, investigations, and responses in coastal Louisiana.
Welborn most recently served as the Detachment Supervisor of the Investigations National Center of Expertise where supervised a team of advisors and mentors to Coast Guard marine casualty investigators worldwide and the investigations program directorate at Coast Guard Headquarters.
