District names St. Mary Students of the Year
St. Mary Parish School District announced today students selected to participate in the regional Students of the Year Competition.
The Students of the Year award program is designed to recognize outstanding elementary, junior high and high school students. This program is an opportunity to recognize students from each parish who have demonstrated excellent academic achievement, leadership ability, and citizenship.
The three students are M.D. Shannon Elementary fifth-grader Sarai Jonelle Richard, Berwick Junior High School eighth-grader Kate Hicks, and West St. Mary High School 12th-grader Bria Burrell, said in a news release.
Parish winners will participate in the regional competition according to grade level in St. Charles (5th), Jefferson (8th), and Plaquemines (12th) Parishes.
In addition to the district winners, other students named as Student of the Year nominees:
Fifth grade: Hugo Angel, Aucoin Elementary; Gabrielle Gilder, Bayou Vista Elementary; Evan White, Berwick Elementary; Evan Louviere, Centerville Elementary; Anirya Smith, Foster Elementary; Tia Hawkins, LaGrange Elementary; Kade Dugas, Norman Elementary; Emily Ackman, Patterson Junior High; Cye Hebert, Raintree Elementary; and Brooklyn Doiron, Wyandotte Elementary School.
Eighth grade: Tianaye White, B. Edward Boudreaux Middle; Brailey Fletcher, Centerville Junior High; Brenden Downing, Franklin Junior High; Carson Gagliano, Morgan City Junior High, and Emma Marin, Patterson Junior High School.
Twelfth grade: Gabrielle Adams, Berwick High; Benea Fletcher, Centerville High; Ashley Malloy, Franklin High; J’Mia Young, Patterson High; and Colby Glatter, Morgan City High School.
The Students of the Year Award Program is sponsored by the Louisiana State Superintendent through the State Department of Education and the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education.
