A 20-year-old Centerville man recently pleaded guilty to charges in several cases, including a conspiracy charge related to a March burglary in Centerville during which two men were allegedly beaten in a drug-related robbery.
Blake Wain, 20, of Centerville, pleaded guilty Nov. 10 in four separate cases to the charges of conspiracy to commit second-degree robbery, false imprisonment with a dangerous weapon, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, according to St. Mary Parish clerk of court records.
Wain had originally been charged with second-degree robbery and simple battery in an alleged March 1 robbery in Centerville. Wain was one of four suspects arrested on charges relating to the robbery.
Arnette Brashear, 19, of Lafayette, John Buck Jr., 29, of Ricohoc, and Kaleb Calloway, 20, of Bayou Vista, were the others arrested in the alleged robbery.
At 2:51 a.m. March 1, a dispatcher received information about a possible battery that occurred at a home in Centerville, a St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office news release said. A detective investigating the complaint collected evidence that Wain and three other male suspects repeatedly struck two male victims during a drug-related robbery at Wain’s home.
One of the victims sustained a broken jaw and was transported to a hospital for treatment, the release said. While conducting a search warrant at Wain’s home during the robbery investigation, detectives made contact with Wain, Brashear and two other people, and located a pill bottle containing several ecstasy pills, a firearm and a pipe used to smoke marijuana, the release said.
Buck and Calloway weren’t at the home at the time the search warrant was conducted, but they were arrested later.
The false imprisonment charge Wain pleaded guilty to stems from a November 2015 incident at a home in Franklin where Wain allegedly attacked a woman and wouldn’t let her leave the home.
As part of Wain’s plea agreement, Judge Paul deMahy granted Assistant District Attorney Anthony Saleme’s motion to dismiss the remaining charges against Wain in the four cases in which he pleaded guilty to other charges, along with all charges in three different cases and declined prosecution of charges in an Oct. 10 arrest. Among the charges dismissed were aggravated assault with a firearm, simple battery and numerous drug charges, court records stated.
Wain is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 5 and could receive up to 15 years in prison.
Brashear, Buck and Calloway still face charges of second-degree robbery and simple battery in the alleged March 1 incident in Centerville. Buck faces the additional charge of resisting an officer during his arrest.
