Qualifying for March election starts Jan. 11

Qualifying for the March 25 primary and April 29 general elections to fill an open seat on the St. Mary Parish Council will be Jan. 11-13 at the clerk of court’s office in the parish courthouse in Franklin, a news release said.
On the March 25 ballot for St. Mary voters will be the race for at-large parish council in District 10. The election will fill the seat vacated by Steve Bierhorst in September due to health concerns, the Banner-Tribune reported.
Pam Washington is serving in Bierhorst’s place on the council until the election.
The office is located on the second floor of the courthouse and is open from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 a.m.
Fees for qualifying must be paid in cash, certified check, cashier’s check or money order. Personal checks cannot be accepted. Fees by party to run for the parish council seat are registered Democrat, $230; registered Republican, $201.25; and registered No Party, $115.
