Sheriff: No major road closures in St. Mary as of 8:30 a.m. Saturday
St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office patrol deputies report a quiet night with no major road closures in St. Mary Parish as of 8:30 a.m. Saturday. The Sheriff's Office Marine Division was deployed yesterday evening to assist with water rescue operations and patrols in Iberia Parish.
Many of the events scheduled for today have been cancelled or postponed due to the weather. The sheriff's office cautions residents about getting on the road. If you must drive, do so at safe speeds and do not follow other vehicles too closely. And if you see a flooded roadway, please notify your local law enforcement agency. Also, drainage ditches are full and the water currents are swift. Children should not be allowed to play in those areas.
The Flash Flood Warning for St. Mary Parish has been extended and will most likely be in effect throughout the day.
As of 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Morgan City police said there were no road closures in Morgan City due to the weather. However, the surrounding areas have experienced severe flooding.
