Substitute teacher allegedly shared racist post
An alleged racist post that surfaced on Facebook recently was allegedly shared by a former long-term substitute teacher employed with the St. Mary Parish School Board, according to KWBJ TV station.
Assistant Schools Superintendent Teresa Bagwell said this morning that the teacher in question was a substitute and only employed through the end of the school year.
Armato said Monday afternoon that the former teacher is no longer employed by the school system nor will he be employed by the system again.
KWBJ reported Saturday that the post illustrates First Lady Michelle Obama and a silverback gorilla, resembling Harambe, the animal who was fatally shot at the Cincinnati Zoo and covered in recent national headlines. The meme is titled, “They shot the wrong gorilla,” the TV station reported.
Armato told KWBJ that the post is under investigation. KWBJ reported that the resident who reposted the teacher’s meme said the teacher was employed at Franklin High School, a predominately African-American school.
