Suspect arrested in theft tools, wire
A 29-year-old Morgan City man was arrested for stealing copper wiring and tools from a local business, Morgan City Police Chief James Blair said in a news release.
— Aris Granger, 29, of Joseph Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:34 p.m. Tuesday on the charges of theft under $750 and illegal carrying of burglary tools.
Officers responded to a local business on Youngs Road in regard to a subject on the property possibly taking cooper wiring. A description of the subject was given and officers located the subject, identified as Granger, in the area.
Officers located copper wiring in Granger’s possession and tools commonly used for burglaries. According to reports, Granger did admit to taking the wiring from the property.
Granger was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department for booking and incarceration.
Blair also reported the following arrests:
—Shawn Lee, 47, of Egle Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 3 p.m. Tuesday on warrants for probation violation two counts and failure to appear for criminal damage to property.
Lee was placed under arrest in the City Court of Morgan City for active warrants he held for the Sixth Ward City Court. Lee was transported to the Morgan City Police Department for booking and incarceration.
—Hope L. Delgado, 31, of Egle Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:40 p.m. Tuesday on the charges of stop sign violation, driving under suspension and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Detectives with the Morgan City Police Department Narcotics Division, observed a vehicle at the intersection of Onstead and Third streets fail to stop at a stop sign.
A traffic stop was conducted and the driver, Delgado, was asked to produce a valid driver’s license. A computer check revealed that Delgado’s driver’s license was suspended.
Officers also located an item commonly used to smoke illegal narcotics inside of Delgado’s purse. Delgado was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department for booking and incarceration.
—William L. Basham, 60, of Grizzaffi Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:29 a.m. Tuesday on the charge of disturbing the peace intoxicated.
Officers responded to the area of First Street and Railroad Avenue in regard to an intoxicated individual lying on the sidewalk. Officers arrived and spoke to the individual, identified as Basham.
Reports indicate that Basham had an odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from his breath and person. Basham was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department for booking and incarceration.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrest:
—George Randy Newlin, 64, of La. 70 in Morgan City, was arrested at 6:08 p.m. Monday on the charge of possession of marijuana. Newlin was released on $2,000 bail.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 47 complaints in the parish.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
