Thursday storm knocked out power
Stormy weather Thursday night caused a couple of areas of Morgan City to lose power after a power line and piece of a utility pole broke, City Utilities Director Bill Cefalu said.
At 7:30 p.m. Thursday, lightning or another weather-related issue caused a static line on the Second Street power poles to break, Cefalu said. The line fell into the primary lines below knocking out power to the Second Street circuit, he said.
That circuit includes residents in the area of Brashear Avenue to Onstead Street from Front to Second streets. By 8:15 p.m., workers repaired that circuit and restored power to that area.
Also around 7:30 p.m. Thursday, a piece broke on a power pole at the corner of Belanger Street and Federal Avenue, causing the Sixth Street circuit to go out. The Sixth Street circuit includes the area of Onstead Street to Brashear Avenue from Federal Avenue to Sixth Street.
City workers separated the Sixth Street circuit and turned the breaker back on for half of that area within about 30 minutes, Cefalu said. Workers then went to repair the pole at Belanger Street and Federal Avenue and restored power to the entire Sixth Street circuit by 10 p.m., Cefalu said.
