Morgan City corrections officer arrested for malfeasance in office

A 25-year-old Morgan City Police Department correctional officer was arrested today after police found evidence the officer had inappropriate contact with a female inmate, Morgan City Police Chief Travis Crouch said in a news release.
Justin W. Palmature, 25, of Morgan City, was arrested at 2:33 p.m. today for malfeasance in office after Morgan City police began an investigation into allegations against a correctional officer employed by the department.
As a result of the investigation, Morgan City police detectives secured an arrest warrant for Palmature based on evidence of inappropriate contact between Palmature and a female inmate, Crouch said.
Palmature had been employed at the department as a correctional officer for about three months prior to the incident and is currently on administrative leave pending further investigation, Crouch said. Palmature was jailed on $20,000 bail.
