The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office has earned accreditation by the national Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies. St. Mary Sheriff Mark Hebert, far left, accepts the CALEA certificate from the association’s vice chairman, Sheriff Craig Webre of Lafourche Parish. Webre congratulated the SMSO for accomplishing accreditation in just four years over Hebert’s first term of office. Accreditation requires adhering to strict standards established by CALEA that include a code of ethics, transparency and accountability. The SMSO is just the fourth law enforcement agency in the state to earn accreditation.
