Dentist partners with 232-HELP to those in need

Dr. Dean L. Listi, a St. Mary Parish dentist, was visited and recognized by the executive director of 232-HELP, Rae Logan, for his participation and volunteer efforts with the 232-HELP Inc. Donated Dental Program.
232-HELP developed a Donated Dental Program in 1988. The program is the only organization in St. Mary Parish dedicated to meeting the oral health needs of citizens with physical and mental disabilities.
Logan said, “Disabled and elderly persons who cannot afford dental care are helped because of the compassion and commitment of our volunteer dentists, like Dr. Listi.”
Listi became a volunteer dentist with 232-HELP in 2005. He said, “232-HELP is an excellent opportunity to give back to your community. It’s just a great program and those that I’ve dealt with and those that I’ve treated are very appreciative of the fact that I’ve been given the opportunity to help someone out.”
While Listi said he is excited about the program and how it has grown since 1988, he hopes to see more dentists get involved.
“232-HELP has a lot more needs and not enough people providing them.” Listi said. “I hope that more people can be made aware of 232-HELP and sign up, as providers, to help these people who are in need.”
