Hanson blanks Country Day in opener
METAIRIE _ John Guienze and Cameron Stovall belted homers here Thursday, leading the Hanson Memorial Tigers to a 15-0 over Country Day in the Class 1A bidistrict pairings at Wally Pontiff Field.
Guienze helped his own cause with the home run after also notching the mound victory. Guienze teamed up with Jacob Hebert on a three-hitter, giving HMS the first-round victory in the state playoffs.
Guienze started on the hill for the Tigers, earning the victory, going four scoreless innings, striking out four with one walk and three hits. Hebert earned the save, working one inning, not allowing a run nor a hit with two free passes.
Leading hitters for the Tigers were: Luke Lancon, 1 for 4, 3 runs, 2 RBI; Bo Barrilleaux, 3 for 4, run; Cameron Stovall, 2 for 3, homer, double, 3 runs, 4 RBI; John Guienze, 3 for 3, homer, run, 3 RBI; Jacob Hebert, RBI; Josh Sanchez, 1 for 2, 2 runs, RBI; Luke Rodriguez, 2 for 3, double, run, 4 RBI; Brandon Bonin, 1 for 2, run; Bryce Ronsonet, run, and Britt Young, 2 runs.
HMS opened the bidistrict contest with five runs in the first frame, three insurance runs in the second frame before claiming a 15-0 lead with seven runs in the third inning.
