Suspect wanted for simple escape caught
The 25-year-old man wanted for leaving the interviewing area at the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office in Morgan City last week has been apprehended, according to a sheriff’s office news release.
Chad Williams, 25, was arrested at 1:25 p.m. today on warrants for illegal possession of stolen things, theft by fraud, and simple escape.
Detectives investigating a complaint of a theft of jewelry learned that Williams sold the items at a local pawn shop, a sheriff’s office news release stated.
Williams was arrested on April 29 on a warrant for illegal possession of stolen things. During the investigation, which was underway at the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office in Morgan City, Williams exited an interviewing area leaving the building on foot, the release stated.
Detectives developed information indicating that Williams was at a residence in the Berwick area. With the assistance of Berwick police, a deputy went to the residence on Ehrlich Street. The deputy spotted Williams exiting out of the back of the residence. The deputy made contact with Williams who was apprehended without incident, the release stated.
