Centerville Bulldogs finish as State Runnerup in Class B

BATON ROUGE _ The Centerville boys track team finished as state runner-ups at the Class B State Track Meet at LSU’s Bernie Moore Stadium Thursday. The Bulldogs scored 61 points to finish a close second to the state champions from Simsboro with 64.5 points.
“I am so proud of the heart and effort we showed out there tonight,” Centerville Coach Randy Bergeron said. “We just came up a little bit short. I felt we had to have a perfect performance to win it, and we almost did.”
“Courtland Pogue was outstanding for us tonight,” Bergeron stated. “He won the 100 meter dash and was on the winning 400, 800, and 1600 meter relay teams.
“I also thought Jumanji Washington had a great night as well.” Washington finished 2nd in the 200 meter dash (22.96), and was on the state champion 400, 800, and 1600 meter relay teams. Making up the Centerville Bulldogs winning 4x200 meter relay team were: Marvin Strawder, Jumanji Washington, Courtland Pogue and Zacchaeus Jackson.
Centerville’s state winning 4x100 meter relay unit consists of Zacchaeus Jackson, Jumanji Washington, Courtland Pogue and Lamonta Thomas. Centerville’s state winning 4x400 meter relay team is composed of Zacchaeus Jackson, Jumanji Washington, Vincent Anderson and Courtland Pogue.
Other top performers for the Bulldogs included Zacchaeus Jackson who ran on the state champion 400, 800, and 1600 meter relay teams, Lamonta Thomas who finished fifth in the 100 meter dash and ran on the state champion 400 meter relay team. Vincent Anderson who was a part of the winning 1600 meter relay team, and Marvin Strawder (5th in the 200 meter dash) and also on the winning 800 meter relay team.
Other scorers for the Bulldogs included Tyler Landry (2nd in the discus), and Tristan Breaux (6th in the 110 meter high hurdles).
The Lady Bulldogs also had a strong showing. Olivia Thibodeaux placed second in the discus (101-5) `and the 400 meter relay team composed of Alyrria Austin, Roshayla Gunner, Nykeytra Kennedy, and Hailey McDaniel finished fifth.
