No change to speeds, stop signs

Franklin City Council members held a brief regular monthly meeting Tuesday.
Police Chief Sabria McGuire reported on three traffic surveys the city council had requested.
She recommended no change of the speed limit on Guidroz Street, saying she conducted 20 site assessments. McGuire said road conditions and other factors led to her decision, and she put out extra patrols. Some loud music citations were issued in the area.
At the corner of Pine Street and Carl C. Foulcard Drive there is a two-way stop and McGuire was asked to consider a four-way stop. She also conducted 20 inspections and said with the traffic flow and a short distance to 10th Street, she did not feel a four-way stop was advisable.
McGuire said she is still conducting a survey on Augustine Maze Street and will report on that assessment in June.
Also Tuesday, City Inspector Blake Steiner reported that a property at 103 Cherry St. has been declared derelict. The owners have applied for and been granted a demolition permit. He recommended a 60-day deferral.
At 502 Ibert St., Steiner said the structure there is also dilapidated and the owners agreed that it needed to be torn down. Steiner recommended an order that the demolition begin within 60 days.
The mayor and council also:
—Appointed the Banner-Tribune official journal for another year.
—Accepted substantial completion of the city hall exterior renovations.
—Announced that the next city-wide cleanup will be held June 14 at 8 a.m.
