Patterson teen struck on U.S. 90

A 16-year-old Patterson teen is in stable condition, according to a hospital spokesperson after being injured attempting to cross U.S. 90 Thursday night.
Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Lafayette spokeswoman Lisa Landry gave the teen’s condition, but could not release the nature of the injuries for which he was being treated.
The accident occurred around 8 p.m. and the victim was airlifted with serious injuries to the hospital, Police Chief Patrick LaSalle said.
The teen was crossing the highway median at Lipari Street on a foot scooter when he was struck by a 2005 Mercury driven westbound by Amy Jackson, 32, of Patterson, LaSalle said. The teen had already crossed one lane of the highway when he struck the front driver side of the vehicle, LaSalle said.
The Patterson Police Department was informed of the accident by the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office, LaSalle said.
“Thanks to the quick work of an off duty deputy in her marked unit, further injuries were prevented,” LaSalle said. “This young man could have been struck again if that deputy had not been there in her marked car and initiated her lights.”
Jackson did not report any injuries from the accident, LaSalle said. No one was ticketed in the accident, he said.
