Crochet Memorial Tourney held June 7
The Jerry Crochet Memorial Tournament was held June 7 at Kemper Williams Park.
Jerry Crochet was one of the original members of the first horseshoe association from the Tri-City area, the L.A. 70 Ringers. Crochet was an avid pitcher and participated in many tournaments locally and around the state.
All proceeds from the tournament are donated to the National Horseshoe Pitchers Hall of Fame in memory of Crochet and the Bayou Horseshoe Pitchers Association. The Hall of Fame is located at 100 Bluestem Way, Wentzville, MO 63395.
Below are tournament results:
Class A
First place, Ricky Richard, Church Point, 7-1, 54.6 ringer percentage; second place, Tim Gilmore, Bayou Vista, 6-2, 58.9; third place, Angela Percle, Morgan City, 4-3, 48.8
Richard defeated Gilmore in a 40-shoe game after a tie in regulation play. Richard was named Class A and Tournament Champion.
Class B
First, Jimmy Percle, Morgan City, 7-0, 38.3; second, Al Dodson, Morgan City, 6-1, 38.7; third, Clyde Landry, Belle River, 5-2, 32.1
Class C
First, Cheryl Matt, Lake Charles, 6-2, 8.1; second, Dwain Arceneaux, Thibodaux, 5-3, 28.4; third, Jamie Granger, Morgan City, 4-3, 11.4
Matt defeated Arceneaux in a 40-shoe game after a tie in regulation play and was named Class C Champion, her first tournament win.
