School Board voting districts completed

The St. Mary Parish School Board reapportionment plan has been completed by the Registrar of Voters Office ahead of the Nov. 4 primary election, according to Jolene Holcombe, St. Mary Parish registrar of voters.
About 9,000 voters will see their school voting districts change, Holcombe said in a news release.
The plan was adopted by the school board Jan. 12, 2012, and pre-cleared by the U.S. Department of Justice.
All school board districts have been defined and all street addresses within the parish have been assigned to a school board district, Holcombe said. Every voter record has been updated with the information, Holcombe said.
Only those active voters who had a change in school board district will be mailed a new voter identification card, Holcomb said.
Inactive voters are those who have a discrepancy in their address, so they will not be mailed new voter identification cards even if their school board district has changed, she added.
Holcomb said any voter who does not receive a new card in the mail within the next several days may assume that their school board district has not changed.
Any voter who is unsure of the new school board district or who wants to check their address, may call the Registrar of Voters Morgan City office at 985-384-8638 or the Franklin office at 337-828-4100, ext. 360.
Maps of all the new school board districts can be found on the St. Mary Parish School Board website at www.stmary.k12.la.us.
The primary election for school board will be held Nov. 4, and the general election will be Dec. 6. Qualifying will be Aug. 20 through Aug. 22. Early voting for the Nov. 4 election will be Oct. 21 through Oct. 28.
