A 16-year-old boy’s skull was fractured after he intervened in a domestic dispute.
Charles Elmore, 38, of the 100 block of Natalie Lane in Patterson, was arrested at 4:55 a.m. Saturday for aggravated second-degree battery. A deputy responded to Teche Regional Medical Center where he learned Elmore and a female were involved in an argument at a Patterson residence, St. Mary Sheriff Mark Hebert said.
As the verbal altercation escalated, the teen attempted to intervene and was struck in the head by a glass vase thrown by Elmore, Hebert said. The juvenile’s skull was fractured during the altercation, according to the sheriff.
The juvenile was hospitalized and later transported to another medical facility for additional treatment. No update on his condition was available this morning, according to sheriff’s spokeswoman Traci Landry.
The deputy transported Elmore to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.
Hebert also reported the following eastern St. Mary Parish arrests over the weekend:
—Aaron Dinger, 22, of the 200 block of Onstead Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 1:50 p.m. Friday for third offense possession of Schedule I synthetic cannabinoids and on two warrants for failure to comply with the terms and conditions of drug court.
Detectives with the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division patrolling the Morgan City area observed Dinger in the yard of his residence and confronted him, knowing Dinger was wanted on the warrants. During Dinger’s arrest, detectives located synthetic cannabinoids on his person, Hebert said. No bail is set.
—Nicaully Osario, 19, of the 300 block of La. 182 in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 2:59 p.m. Friday for theft of goods.
—Ana Maradiaga Ortiz, 20, of the 300 block of La. 182 in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 2:59 p.m. Friday for theft of goods.
A deputy responded to a complaint of shoplifting at a store in Bayou Vista where store personnel said Osario and Ortiz were seen concealing items and attempting to leave the store without paying. Both were released on a summons to appear in court Oct. 13.
—Jinny Landry, 56, of the 500 block of Teche Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 10:29 p.m. Friday for theft. A deputy responded to a complaint of a theft of a wallet that occurred at a business on La. 182 in Bayou Vista. During the course of the investigation, the deputy learned that Landry had been found in possession of the wallet, Hebert said. Landry was released on a summons to appear in court Oct. 13.
—Janice L. Griffen, 38, of the 100 block of Charlotte Street in Gray, was arrested at 2:48 p.m. Saturday for theft of goods. A deputy responded to a complaint of shoplifting at a store in Bayou Vista where store personnel said Griffen was seen concealing items in her purse before leaving the store without paying. She was released on a summons to appear in court on Oct. 13.
—Jeremy Smith, 31, of the 1700 block of La. 182 in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 1:46 a.m. today for domestic abuse battery. A deputy responded to a complaint of a disturbance at a residence in Bayou Vista during which Smith struck a female in the face, Hebert said. He remains jailed with no bail set.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following weekend arrests:
—Nakita V. Breaux, 25, of Napoleonville, was arrested on Taft Street in Patterson at 8:17 p.m. Friday for resisting an officer by force, simple battery on an officer, disturbing the peace by language, public intimidation and open container in public. Breaux was released on $1,743 bail.
—Alonzo A. Bennett, 28, of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue in Patterson, was arrested at 8:21 p.m. Friday on Taft Street in Patterson for resisting an officer by force and disturbing the peace by language. Bennett was released on $578 bail.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrests:
—Jonathan Daigle, 55, of Aucoin Street in Morgan City, was arrested Saturday at 3 a.m. on California Street for first offense driving while intoxicated. He was released after posting $2,500 bail.
—Dex Clements, 27, of River Road in Berwick, was arrested at 10:55 a.m. Friday on Kelli Drive in Patterson on a Berwick warrant for failure to register as a sex offender. Clements was transported to the Berwick Police Department where he was booked before being transferred to the St. Mary Law Enforcement Center in Centerville.
Morgan City Police Chief Michael Banks reported the following arrests over the weekend:
—Dantrell I. Garrett, 25, of Victor II Boulevard in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:01 p.m. Sunday for failure to properly signal turn, operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license, possession of Schedule I marijuana with the intent to distribute, possession of Schedule II cocaine with the intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession or carrying of a firearm by a convicted felon, illegal carrying of a weapon in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance, taking contraband into a penal institution, possession of Schedule III hydrocodone and possession of Schedule III Xanax.
An officer with the Morgan City Police Department observed a vehicle fail to properly signal a turn in the area of Second Street and Railroad Avenue and stopped the vehicle to investigate. The driver, Garrett, could not produce a driver’s license and was found to be operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license. Garrett, continued his suspicious behavior and refused officers’ request to search his vehicle for contraband and/or weapons. A narcotics canine was used in a sweep of the exterior of the vehicle, which caused the canine to indicate the presence of the odor of illegal narcotics at the vehicle, Banks said.
Officers subsequently searched the vehicle and located a handgun, suspected crack cocaine and a scale commonly used to weigh narcotics for sale, Bank said. The items were seized and Garret was arrested. He previously had been convicted on felony charges that prohibited the possession of the firearm and was asked if he possessed any other narcotics when he was arrested. Once transported to the Morgan City Jail facility, he was found to be in possession of marijuana and additional cocaine that he had hidden in his pants, Banks said.
This was seized and the investigation continued. Based on evidence and statements, a search warrant was obtained for Garrett’s residence. Narcotics detectives recovered additional suspected marijuana and cocaine from the residence along with hydrocodone and Xanax. Garrett was booked and remains incarcerated.
—Darrell J. Sides, 39, of Keith Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:05 p.m. Friday for appearing in public intoxicated. Sides was located on La. 182 after officers received a complaint of an intoxicated subject in the area. No bail was reported.
—Rodrick Anthony Hunter, 22, of Shady Grove in Patterson, was arrested at 10:21 p.m. Friday on warrants for theft of goods (under $500), theft under $500, a St. Mary Parish warrant for three counts of failure to comply with conditions of drug court and on a Patterson warrant for sagging pants violation. Hunter was located on Belanger Street in Morgan City and arrested on the outstanding warrants. He remains jailed in Morgan City.
—Michelle A. Brown, 42, of Fifth Street in Morgan City, was arrested Friday at 11:34 p.m. for battery on a police officer and resisting an officer.
A Morgan City police officer was dispatched to a Fifth Street residence regarding a disturbance where Brown was screaming obscenities and throwing clothing from the front door of the residence. As the officer approached, Brown began to scream at the officer and started pushing her finger towards his face, Banks said. The officer backed up and ordered Brown to cease at which time she again lunged at the officer, using her hands to scratch the eyes and facial area of the officer, the chief said. Brown began to shout threats towards the officer as she continued to resist. She was subdued and placed into handcuffs. Brown was jailed with no bail reported.
—Ysonde T. Williams, 35, of Mallard Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 5:22 p.m. Saturday on a warrant for theft of utility services. She was jailed. No bail was reported.
—William Smith, 56, of Berwick, was arrested at 3:04 p.m. Sunday for simple assault.
Officers were dispatched to an address in the 300 block of Second Street regarding a disturbance. The victim and a witness told officers that Smith came to the residence and began to threaten the complainant. Officers located Smith at a nearby residence and, based on statements, arrested Smith. Smith was jailed.
—Jamichael D. Bowie, 24, of Fourth Street in Berwick, was arrested at 8:16 a.m. Sunday on a warrant for theft under $300. Bowie was transported to the Morgan City Police Department from Berwick Police Department and booked on the outstanding warrant.
—Mykella L. Johnson, 27, of Joseph Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:34 a.m. today for simple obstruction of a highway of commerce, possession of Schedule I marijuana and possession of Schedule III Xanax.
A patrolling officer observed a vehicle stopped in the middle of the intersection near La. 182 and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and stopped the vehicle to investigate. As the officer approached the driver, Johnson, he observed what appeared to be a small cellophane bag protruding from her shirt near her breast area. The officer confronted the driver about the article as she attempted to turn and conceal the item, Banks said.
A female officer was able to retrieve the item and discovered it to be marijuana, a controlled substance, Banks said. Johnson was placed under arrest. She also was found to be in possession of Xanax, another controlled substance, and was additionally charged, Banks said. She was jailed in the Morgan City Jail.
