Terry honored as Conservationist of the Year by SWCD

St. Mary Soil & Water Conservation District held its fourth Farmer and Rancher Appreciation banquet recently at the Pavilion at Cypress Bayou Casino.
It was a jointly-sponsored occasion with the parish USDA Service Center.
Some 140 guests attended and heard from Louisiana Commissioner of Agriculture Mike Strain, Chitimacha Tribal Chairman John Darden, Sen. Bret Allain, St. Mary Parish President Paul Naquin, state conservationist for the National Resource Conservation Service Kevin North and state Farm Service Administration Executive Director Craig McCain.
The Conservationist of the Year award was presented to Wilson “Will” Terry of Wilson Terry Farms Inc.
Terry has been a sugarcane farmer in St. Mary Parish for more than 40 years. He currently farms approximately 1,700 acres of sugarcane in this parish and also serves as president of the St. Mary Sugar Cooperative Board.
He is a board member of the St. Mary Parish Levee District, the Port of West St. Mary and Teche Farm Supply and Sugar. Terry was a board member for the St. Mary Parish Soil and Water Conservation District and his father, Clay Terry, was the chairman of the St. Mary Parish Soil and Water Conservation District.
Terry has worked with the USDA-NRCS on several initiatives at Wilson Terry Farms Inc.
