Flipped 18-wheeler on U.S. 90 blocks traffic 6 hours

An 18-wheeler carrying 600 bales of hay flipped on its side on U.S. 90 westbound just east of the Hollywood Truck Plaza Sunday morning, causing the highway to be blocked for about six hours, Berwick Police Chief James Richard said.
Police got a call at 1:07 a.m. Sunday reporting that an 18-wheeler had flipped, he said.
The 18-wheeler was driven by Todd Hohensee, 52, of Houma, who was cited for careless operation of motor vehicles after he was driving on U.S. 90 eastbound, lost control of the vehicle, crossed the median and turned on its side in the westbound lanes, Richard said. The vehicle, owned by Triple Son Farm Transport in Cut Off, was loaded with more than 600 bales of hay, the chief said.
The highway stayed blocked for slightly more than six hours before opening around 7 a.m. Sunday, he said. No other vehicles were involved in the accident and no injuries were reported, he said.
The Morgan City Police Department, the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office, Louisiana State Police and the Berwick Volunteer Fire Department responded for assistance to the incident, Richard said.
A Berwick volunteer firefighter’s personal vehicle and a Morgan City police unit were involved in an accident while they were blocking traffic at U.S. 90 and Thorguson Road, Richard said. The accident was handled by state police, and Richard did not have details on it, he said. State Police spokesman Master Trooper Brooks David said he did not have any information on that accident.
