A former resident of Bunkie and a resident of New Iberia, Mr. Lejeune passed away Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2014, at 9:58 a.m. in a New Iberia hospital.
A Christian by faith and a long-standing member of the First United Methodist Church of New Iberia, Danny was a funeral director at David Funeral Home and previously worked at Evangeline Funeral Home, providing for the community at a moment’s notice. Committed beyond dedication, he was a true professional who was always at his best when giving to others.
In 1965, Danny became a licensed funeral director and began spending his lifetime in service to others. He spent countless hours of his time to ensure those who suffered a loss were taken care of beyond what was expected, and throughout his career he was always punctual. Danny was a part of the prestigious organization of the Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice where he earned the designation of Certified Funeral Service Practitioner (CFSP).
Danny was also a Master Mason, having been a member of Aurora Lodge F&AM in New Iberia, a 32nd Degree Mason, Past Master of the Bunkie Masonic Lodge, a member of Habibi Shrine Temple, a member of the Eastern Star Lafayette Chapter 46, a participant and finisher of Leadership Iberia, a member of the National Funeral Directors Association and a past member of the Louisiana Funeral Directors Association.
Armed with his handsome smile, Danny was a jokester at heart, but with his dry sense of humor, it was hard to tell if he was being serious or pulling your leg. Danny was also a kindhearted man and a true provider in every sense of the word, putting his family first by diligently working to provide for their every need.
Hobbies of Danny’s included tinkering on various projects in his work shop, fishing, being outdoors and, furthermore, enjoying a well hand-rolled cigar. Both Danny and his family were proud of his compassion, his loyalty, his dedication, and, last but not least, his drive to serve others throughout his lifetime.
Danny will be sadly missed by all those who knew and were made better by him. More importantly though, Danny will forever live in the hearts of those he loved, for nothing loved is ever lost and he was loved so much.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Nanette Delaune Lejeune, of New Iberia; his sons, Richard D. Lejeune, of Morgan City and Stuart W. Lejeune, of New Iberia; his daughter, Jill Lejeune Romero and her husband, Leon, of Coteau; his father, Daniel Joseph Lejeune, of Bunkie; his sisters, Linda Long, of Bunkie, Gaye Richard, of Cheneyville and Lori Setliff, of Melder; and his grandchildren, Sean Lejeune and Bailey Grace Lejeune, both of Morgan City, and Stephen Guy Lejeune and Katie Romero, both of Coteau.
Pallbearers will be Sean Lejeune, Stephan Lejeune, Jody Delaune, Jakie Reynaud, Stanley Setliff and Dan LeBlanc Sr. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenny Pellerin and Bennie Richard.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Hazel Rush Lejeune.
