HMS prevails over Berwick
BEWICK _ Jacob Stewart and Royce Norton caught a pair of touchdowns each from quarterback Bo Barrilleaux, leading the Hanson Memorial Tigers to a 41-14 victory over the Berwick Panthers here Friday at Geisler Stadium in a non-district battle.
Hanson (3-0) rolled to a 28-7 halftime lead and never looked back.
Stewart hauled in one of five touchdowns passes from Barrilleaux in the first quarter. Stewart caught a 22-yard strike from Barrilleaux to hand the Tigers a 6-0 lead early in the first period. A short time later, Stewart was on the receiving end of a 21-yard aerial strike from Barrilleaux, giving HMS a 14-0 advantage after the Tigers made good on the two-point conversion.
In the second quarter, Norton made touchdown catches of 18 and 43 yards on strikes from Barrilleaux, helping the Tigers build a 28-0 advantage.
Berwick’s Justin Morvant caught an 8-yard TD pass from Jeremy Boudreaux before Shannon Theriot kicked the extra-point, enabling the Panthers to trim Hanson’s lead to 28-7 at the half.
Hanson’s Jeff Soulis, who rushed for 180 yards, scored on a one-yard plunge in the third quarter to hand the Tigers a 34-7 advantage.
Hanson’s Clint Young capped the Tigers’ scoring with a nifty 18-yard TD strike from Barrilleaux as the Tigers sailed ahead by a 41-7 margin.
Berwick (1-2) scored its final touchdown when Collin Louviere scored on an 8-yard run as the Panthers bowed to the Tigers by a final score of 41-14.
Hanson outrushed the Panthers by a 232-182 margin with Soulis churning up 180 yards.
Barrilleaux went 9 of 14 for 195 yards and five touchdowns with one pick.
Hanson (3-0) will open District 7-A action Friday at Ascension Episcopal.
