Morgan City turns back West St. Mary

MORGAN CITY _ The Morgan City Tigers notched their first win of the season after pinning a 48-12 setback on the West St. Wolfpack here Friday at Morgan City Tiger Stadium in non-district action.
Morgan City (1-2) built up a 12-0 lead midway through the opening quarter on touchdowns by Ethan Scioneaux and Jaylen Jones.
West St. Mary sliced the lead to 12-6 when Shelby Phillips broke free on a 43-yard run with 5:42 remaining in the first quarter.
MCHS’ Kevon Marsh sailed free on a 42-yard run before Hector Tolento fired a 36-yard scoring strike to Jones, sending the Tigers ahead by a 27-6 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Marsh scored his second touchdown in the final minutes of the second period, racing unmolested 46 yards before Irving Delgado booted his fifth extra-point to hand the Tigers a 35-6 advantage. Scott Comeaux ran back a 52-yard interception and Delgado split the uprights to give the Tigers a 41-6 halftime cushion.
With 5:00 showing on the clock in the final period, Tolento tossed a 42-yard scoring strike to Jones and the Tigers lead 48-6.
Dondre Johnson scored on a 1-yard plunge to cap the scoring for the Wolfpack with 1:25 blinking on the clock.
Shelby Phillips led the Wolfpack in rushing with eight carries for 40 yards and one score while Torrance Ballard finished with eight touches for 28 yards and La’Bryson Polidore had two totes for seven yards with Wayne Armelin rushed one time for 3 yards and Dondre Jones rushing 3 times for 2 yards. Trevon Charatain had one carry for 1 yard.
Phillips was also the top passer for the Wolfpack, connecting on 4 of 9 passes for 71 yards and 2 interceptions. Dondre Johnson completed 3 of 7 passes for 69 yards and one interception.
La’Bryson Polidore caught four passes for 113 yards while Trevon Chartain made one catch for 13 yards with Tyler Martin had one catch for 12 yards with Torrance Ballard making one catch for two yards.
Marsh was the leading ground-gainer for the Tigers with nine carries for 118 yards and two TDs. Jacolbi Francois rushed 20 times for 103 yards while Ethan Scioneaux had three totes for 19 yards and one TD while Jaylen Jones ran one time for 16 yards.
Hector Tolento connected on 3 of 4 passes for 99 yards and two touchdowns. Jones made four catches for 127 yards and two scores.
West St. Mary (0-3) will continue playing on the road next week at Northwest High School in Opelousas.
