Suspect sought in hit and run
Police are trying to find the person or people responsible for running into a building at Hanko’s Metal Works during an incident that was caught on video surveillance Sunday, Berwick Assistant Police Chief David Leonard said.
Police received a complaint at 6:41 a.m. Monday from someone who was passing by Hanko’s Metal Works and noticed damage to the front of the building, Leonard said. Officers met with the business owners, and upon reviewing video footage from about 5 p.m. Sunday, discovered that a black Mazda 3 occupied by at least one person appeared to be doing “doughnuts” in the parking lot, Leonard said.
“After they’d done that, it appears that they intentionally drove into the building,” Leonard said. The vehicle then drove off, Leonard said. Police are not sure whether the driver was a white or Hispanic male, but Leonard said the driver does not appear to be a black male.
Anyone with information regarding the incident may contact the Berwick Police Department at 985-384-7710.
