MCHS nips Franklin Hornets
In a battle for bragging rights for St. Mary Parish, the Morgan City Tigers pulled out a 14-6 win over the Franklin Hornets Friday in non-district action at J. C. Dry Stadium.
Morgan City (2-3) spoiled Franklin’s Homecoming with the narrow victory. The Tigers have notched wins over both West St. Mary and Franklin on the season.
Francois scored the game’s first touchdown on his 38-yard run before Delgoto’s kick gave the Tigers a 7-0 advantage with 3:54 showing on the clock in the second quarter.
Franklin closed the gap at 7-6 with 46 seconds remaining in the second period when De’John Parker plowed his way for a score on a four-yard run.
Morgan City’s Jaylon Jones hauled in a 38-yard pass from Hector Torlato with 18 seconds left in the second quarter, giving the Tigers the 14-6 lead of which they never relinquished.
Franklin quarterback David Kinchen completed 3 of 10 passes for 25 yards.
LaDarrius Davis led the Hornets in rushing with 12 carries for 86 yards while Thailen Armstead ran 12 times for 34 yards. Kinchen picked up 13 yards on 13 tries while Parker carried six times for 20 yards and one TD. Avontre Perro also had five carries for 29 yards.
DeAndre Charles caught one pass for 10 yards while Avontre Perro hauled in one catch for 12 yards and Allen Randle had one catch for three yards.
Franklin (0-5) will travel to face the Berwick Panthers (1-4) on Thursday for the opening of the District 9-3A season.
