Ferriday holds off WSM Wolfpack

BALDWIN _ The Ferriday Trojans posted a 28-15 victory over the West St. Mary Wolfpack here Friday in non-district action at Wolfpack Stadium.
West St. Mary (0-5) was celebrating homecoming while playing its first game in front of the home crowd on the season.
Ferriday displayed a sharp passing attack in the first half before running tailback Domino in the second half to claim the win over the Wolfpack.
Ferriday built a 6-0 lead midway through the first quarter.
West St. Mary gained a 7-6 lead during the final two-minutes of the initial period when Trevon Chartain ran back a punt return for a 50-yard touchdown. Devron Charatain kicked the point-after-touchdown as the Wolfpack coasted to the 7-6 advantage with 1:58 left in the first period.
A short time later, Morales was on the end of a 47-yard scoring strike, handing the Trojans a 12-7 advantage with 31.6 showing on the clock in the first period.
In the second period, Ferriday extended its lead to 20-7 on a quick-strike pass which was good for a touchdown.
West St. Mary’s Torrance Ballard _ who rushed for nearly 100 yards on the night _ raced untouched for a 47-yard touchdown to help the Wolfpack narrow the gap at 20-13 with 34 seconds left in the second quarter.
The Trojans added another touchdown in the third quarter and a safety in the fourth quarter to take a 28-13 advantage.
The Wolfpack defense also notched a safety pulling closer to the Trojans at 28-15.
In the first half, the Trojans benefited from their vaunted passing attack while the Wolfpack relied on the running of Torrance Ballard and Trevon Charatain to score touchdowns while both teams defenses nailed down safeties.
West St. Mary (0-5) will open District 6-3A action Friday at Notre Dame in Crowley.
