Belleview Golf Club to host Parish Cup Saturday

Saturday morning will pit the 32 best golfers from The Belleview golf club of Franklin against Berwick’s St. Mary’s golf club.
This is the second year the event will be held with St. Mary’s claiming a narrow victory last year. The event will be held at The Belleview Saturday beginning at 8 a.m. with the Seniors teeing off in 4-ball competition followed by the Champions at 9:05 a.m.
At the conclusion of the 4-ball matches lunch will be served then teams will take to the course at 1 p.m. to compete in the alternating shot format.
On Sunday the teams will compete in singles matches beginning at 8 a.m. at St. Mary’s in Berwick.
Members of this year’s Belleview teams include seniors Marshall Lee, Charles Judice, Charlie Ibert, Mickey Michel, Doug Fredrick, Jules Hebert, Ralph Longman, Johnny Sanchez, Randy Battaglia, Dave Williamson, Al Kulhman and Don Waldon. The Champions team will consist of Bobby McDonald, Nick Molaison, Ty Burdett, Robbie Senette, Bob Senette, Brandon Burdett, Bret Senette, Garrett Burns, Dale Rogers, Eddie Bodin, David Arboneaux, Brad Rodriguez, Chase Arboneaux, Brian Thibodeaux, Kelly Louvierre and Darrell Johnson.
Bobby McDonald came from three shots back last Sunday of eventual runner-up Nick Molaison who posted an opening day score of 1 over par 73.
McDonald shot a blistering final day score of 2 under par 70 to best the field of golfers this past weekend. Molaison finished the second day with a final round of 76 to finish as runner-up. Ty Burdett shot a first day score of 78 and finished in third place as he shot a final day score of 2 over par 74. McDonald shot a two day score of 76-70-146 to beat Molaison 73-76-149 and Burdett 78-74-152.
McDonald bested a field that included 24 golfers who were aiming to dethrone the 2 time defending champion. Once again however, McDonald hit green after green making several birdies along the way. Molaison could not follow up his first day round and lost too many strokes to par allowing the eventual champ to pull away. Burdett had his round under par early trying to make a charge but a couple of bogies late hurt his chances as he finished in third place.
In the senior’s division a total of 18 golfers played this weekend. Taking first place was Marshall Lee with a 2 day score of 82-80-162. In second place was Charles Judice with a two day score of 82-82-164. They were followed in third place by Randy Battaglio who shot a 2 day score of 84-82-166.
The top 16 golfers in each division qualified to play in this year’s St. Mary Parish Ryder between The Belleview and St. Mary’s Country Club of Berwick. Those matches will be held Oct. 11 and 12. More information on this event will be posted next week.
