BHPA holds City Singles, Doubles championships

The Bayou Horseshoe Pitchers Association held its City Championships Saturday and Sunday at Kemper Williams Park.
Winners in Saturday’s singles’ competition included Clay Canty, of Morgan City, as City Singles champion and Club Champion; Angela Percle, of Morgan City, as Class A Singles winner and Canty as Class B Singles champion.
Winners in Sunday’s doubles’ competition included the team of O.J. Cole, of Centerville, and Julius Lovell, of Bayou L’Ourse, topping Linda Dodson and Al Dodson, both of Morgan City, for the City and Club title.
Team Cole/Lovell and Team Dodson/Dodson had to play a 50-shoe playoff to determine the champion after the teams were tied following regulation.
Cole/Lovell combined for a 7-1 mark and a 22.1 ringer percentage, while the Dodsons finished 6-2 with a 35.1 ringer percentage.
The third-place doubles team was Tim Gilmore, of Bayou Vista, and Kevin Doré, of Patterson, who were 5-2 with a ringer percentage of 40.
In Class A singles’ action, Percle finished 6-1, while Linda Dodson was second with a 5-2 mark, and Al Dodson was third with a 4-3 record.
In Class B singles’ play, Canty was 7-0, Ike Chavalia, of Houma, was 6-1 and Dale Pearce, of Bayou Vista, was 5-2.
The championship bracket to determine the Bayou Horseshoe Pitcher’s City and Club Champion featured the top two finishers from Class A and B meeting in a round-robin format.
Canty won with a 3-0 mark. He had a 29.8 ringer percentage. Percle finished second with a 2-1 mark and a ringer percentage of 54.0, while Chavalia was third with a 1-2 mark and a 39.5 ringer percentage. Linda Dodson was fourth with an 0-3 mark and a 38.0 ringer percentage.
In all Saturday, 400 horseshoes were pitched by each player.
