Robicheaux earns community service award
Alicia Robicheaux was named the St. Mary AARP Community Service Award winner at the St. Mary AARP Oct. 6 meeting. Treasurer Ann Etta Lombardo presented the award to Robicheaux as her family surprised her with their attendance.
District Attorney Phil Haney sponsored the night’s meal of meatloaf and potatoes. Cooks for the evening were Myrt and Mac McNemar, and Billy and Judy Giroir.
St. Mary AARP President Curtis Leonard chaired the meeting. Lombardo gave the opening prayer and Hubert Francis sang the National Anthem. Board member Joe Pizzuto held a moment of remembrance for the members that passed away during the month.
Speakers were Haney and Barbara Church with Lifeline Screening. Haney introduced his staff along with Bo Duhe, an unopposed candidate for Haney’s seat.

—Members learned about trips including a cruise to the Bahamas in January 2015 and a May 2015 trip to Niagara Falls. Call the AARP office at 985-384-2277 for more information on trips available.
—Board member Bill Darce announced that St. Mary AARP will be giving away its largest door prize ever at the chapter meal set Oct. 21 at the Petroleum Club of Morgan City.
—The next meeting will be Nov. 3 at the St. Mary Senior Citizens Center on Chennault Street in Morgan City. A meal of chicken and sausage gumbo, cooked by the Floyd and Shirley Hymel cooking team, will be served.
