VCHS downs HMS Tigers

The Vermilion Catholic Eagles turned back the Hanson Memorial Tigers 23-0 Friday in District 7-A at McCloskey Field.
Vermilion Catholic (8-1, 4-0) started the scoring with a safety, building a 2-0 lead in the first quarter. VCHS took a 16-0 lead in the second quarter on touchdowns by Tyler Derouen and Devren Constantine.
Derouen scored on a 2-yard run before Emile Trahan kicked the point-after-touchdown, sending the Eagles ahead by a 9-0 margin. A short time later, Constantine hauled in a 42-yard TD from quarterback Hunter Firth prior to Trahan connecting on the point-after as VCHS grabbed a 16-0 advantage.
The Vermilion Catholic Eagles earned the 23-0 victory when Derouen added his second touchdown on a 5-yard run in the fourth quarter.
Hanson’s Britt Young led the Tigers in rushing with 10 yards on five carries. Young also led the Tigers in passing after connecting on 8 of 15 passes for 41 yards and three interceptions. Hanson’s Royce Norton caught four passes for 44 yards.
The Hanson Memorial Tigers (5-4, 2-4) will play host to Christian Life on Friday in non-district action at McCloskey Field.
