Hanson Memorial Tigers earn Holiday Classic victory

Three players scored in double figures as the Hanson Memorial Tigers defeated the Delcambre Panthers 73-41 in Wednesday’s opener in the 74th Annual Hanson Holiday Classic Tournament here at the Billy Gene Talbot Gymnasium.
Brennan Young, Britt Young and Josh Sanchez all scored in double digits to propel the HMS Tigers lop-sided victory over the Delcambre Panthers in Wednesday’s nightcap.
In Wednesday’s other contests, it was: West St. Mary Lady Wolfpack 51, Berwick Lady Panthers 32; Abbeville Lady Wildcats 44, Franklin Lady Hornets 39 and West St. Mary Wolfpack 66, Berwick Panthers 52.
On tap for today, the Houma Christian Lady Warriors play the Patterson Lady Jills at 3 p.m. At 5 p.m., the Loreauville Tigers battle Highland Baptist in boys action. The 6:30 p.m. contest pits the Houma Christian Warriors against the Kaplan Pirates. Tonight’s final game will send the Hanson Memorial Lady Tigers against the West St. Mary Lady Wolfpack at 8.
WEST ST. MARY 51, BERWICK 32
Nashaylnn Brown poured in 13 points while Jakiryn Connor and Myria Druilhet tossed in 10 points apiece to lead the West St. Mary Lady Wolfpack to a 51-32 victory over the Berwick Lady Panthers.
West St. Mary opened with a 12-9 run in the first quarter before taking a 28-15 advantage at the half. The Lady Wolfpack enjoyed an 18-6 third quarter surge to secure a 46-21 bulge at the end of the third period. The Lady Wolfpack strolled away with a huge 51-32 victory over Berwick in the HMS Holiday Tournament opener.
Brown led West St. Mary with 13 points on five field goals and 3 of 6 free throws. Connor bagged 10 points, draining a pair of treys, one deuce and 2 of 3 charity shots. Druilhet also canned 10 points, connecting on field shots from the floor.
Other scorers for the West St. Mary Lady Wolfpack were: Treniece Butler, 8; Tajah Loston, 6 and Lacy Talbot, 4.
ABBEVILLE 44, FRANKLIN 39
Anayia Starland poured in 14 points, leading the Abbeville Lady Wildcats to a 44-39 win over the Franklin Lady Hornets.
Abbeville benefited from a 21-6 second quarter burst to take a 28-12 halftime cushion. At the end of three quarters, the Lady Wildcats held a 35-21 advantage before posting the narrow 44-39 win.
Fabian Small led Franklin with 17 points while Wyneshia Jenkins added seven. Chardonnae Parker added six points with Quantae Jones tossing in five and Kaira Butler draining four points.
WEST ST. MARY 66, BERWICK 52
D. Robertson fired in 20 points, lifting the West St. Mary Wolfpack to a 66-52 victory over the Berwick Panthers.
Robertson led the Wolfpack in scoring with 20 points while Dvante Charles tossed in 14 points and D. Johnson finished with 13 points to polish off the double digit scorers.
Kenan Jones led Berwick with 14 points.
HANSON 73, DELCAMBRE 41
Brennan Young canned 15 points, sending the Hanson Memorial Tigers to a 73-41 triumph over the Delcambre Panthers.
Young connected on a trio of treys along with three deuces for his 15 points.
Other top scorers for HMS were: Britt Young, 13 points on one trey and five floor baskets; Josh Sanchez, 10 points on five field goals; Royce Norton, 9; Bo Barrilleaux, 6; Jacob Steward, 6; Andrew Luke, 3; Skyler Fitch, 3; Clint Young, 2; Brian Sonnier, 2; Kyler Clements, 2; Jacob Hebert, 1 and Robert Canois, 1.
