HMS Lady Tigers down WSM Lady Wolfpack in Holiday Classic
Sarah Sonnier and Stephanie Roig scored in double figures, leading the Hanson Memorial Lady Tigers to a 42-10 victory over West St. Mary Lady Wolfpack in the 74th annual Hanson Holiday Classic Basketball Tournament Thursday at the Billy Gene Talbot Gymnasium.
The Hanson Memorial Lady Tigers polished off the West St. Mary Lady Wolfpack in Thursday’s nightcap.
In other action: the Patterson Lady Jills toppled the Houma Christian Lady Warriors, 52-44; the Kaplan Pirates held off the Houma Christian Warriors, 44-40; the Highland Baptist Lions nudged past the Loreauville Tigers, 47-45.
Four games are on tap for today. In the opener, the Berwick Lady Panthers battle the Franklin Lady Hornets at 3:30 p.m. At 5, the Patterson Lady Jills will play the Abbeville Lady Wildcats. The Highland Baptist Lions will take on the West St. Mary Wolfpack at 6:30 p.m. Tonight’s final game will send the Kaplan Pirates against the Hanson Memorial Tigers at 8.
Action will continue throughout Saturday with the girls championship game set for 4:30 p.m. with the boys championship contest slated for 6 p.m.
PATTERSON 52, HOUMA CHRISTIAN 44
The Patterson Lady Jills went on a 20-14 fourth-quarter run to hold off the Houma Christian Lady Warriors 52-44.
Erykah Singleton and Nakia Brooks led the Patterson Lady Jills to the victory.
Dee Thomas and Bree Harding were the leading scorers for HCHS.
KAPLAN 44, HOUMA CHRISTIAN 40
Darren Istre, Valen Bates and Dylon Touchet scored 10 points to propel the Kaplan Pirates past the Houma Christian Warriors, 44-40.
D. Battaglia and M. Frye scored 17 and 10 points respectively for the Warriors.
HIGHLAND BAPTIST 47, LOREAUVILLE 45
Jayden Jacob fired in 22 points, leading Highland Baptist to a 47-45 win over the Loreauville Tigers.
G. Roberts led Loreauville with 24 points.
HANSON MEMORIAL 42, WEST ST. MARY 10
Sarah Sonnier and Stephanie Roig combined for 23 points to lead the Hanson Memorial Lady Tigers to a 42-10 victory over the West St. Mary Lady Wolfpack.
Hanson’s Lady Tigers enjoyed an 11-4 first quarter run before going on a 7-6 spurt in the second period for an 18-10 lead at intermission. The Hanson Lady Tigers secured a 28-10 advantage in the third quarter on the way to the 42-10 victory.
Sonnier bagged six floor shots for her game-high 12 points. Roig also finished in double digits with 11 points on one trey and four deuces.
Rounding out the scoring for the Lady Tigers were: Casey Fitzgerald, 8; Haley Bollinger, 6; Allyssa Young, 3 and Baylee Young, 2.
Nashaylynn Brown, Jakyrin Conner, Myria Druilhet, Letaysia Brown and Lacy Talbot all chipped two points apiece to lead the West St. Mary Lady Wolfpack.
