Rogers DeHart Sr.

February 10, 1926 — January 20, 2015
Rogers DeHart Sr., 88, a resident of Berwick, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2015, at Morgan City Healthcare Center surrounded by his loving family.
Rogers was born on Feb. 10, 1926, in Deer Island, the son of Winford Malcolm and Laura Eve Aucoin DeHart.
Rogers enjoyed being in the outdoors tending to his garden or going fishing; as he was a commercial fisherman for about 10 years. He enjoyed woodworking and made hundreds of little boats that he would give them out to anyone. He served his country proudly by serving in the United States Army during World War II. Rogers was a member of the Berwick Baptist Church and enjoyed taking care of the church yard. Of all the things that Rogers did in his life, the thing he loved the most was his family; and he enjoyed spending as much time as he could with them.
He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by three children, Rhonda DeHart Wilson, of Hanceville, Alabama, Rogers DeHart Jr., of Gibson, and Ferrel DeHart, of Berwick; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Rogers was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Pearl Pete DeHart; one sister, Lorenza Moore; and five brothers, Avery DeHart, Algie DeHart, Alvy DeHart, Rudolph DeHart and Evans DeHart.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, 2015, at Berwick Baptist Church. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, 2015, at Twin City Funeral Home with visitation resuming from 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Following the services, Rogers will be laid to rest in the Berwick Cemetery Mausoleum with military honors being conducted by the East St. Mary Veterans Funeral Squad.
