CHS wins district opener

CENTERVILLE _ The Centerville Bulldogs won their District 9-B opener with a thrilling 48-38 over the Maurepas Wolves here Tuesday at the CHS Gym.
Centerville (2-13, 1-0) rallied behind a 20-point outburst in the second quarter. Maurepas jumped out to an 8-7 lead in the first quarter before Centerville went on a 20-6 spurt in the second quarter for a 27-14 halftime cushion. Centerville, which held a 33-27 advantage after three quarters, poured in 15 points while limiting Maurepas to 11 during the final period for the 48-38 victory.
Leading scorers for the Maurepas Wolves were: Donovan Thibodeaux, 13; Wesley Younger, 8; Jason Melin, 8; Tre Lessard, 5 and Darrian Bouquet, 4.
Jaylon Williams led the Centerville Bulldogs in scoring with 20 points along with 5 assists and 5 rebounds. Marvin Strawder and Lance Howard also finished in double figures with 14 and 13 points respectively. Cameron Pogue added one points while Cole Candella finished with 7 rebounds, 4 assists for the Bulldogs.
In the Girls contest, the Maurepas Lady Wolves managed to squeezed past the Centerville Lady Bulldogs by a 48-46 win in overtime.
Maurepas outpointed Centerville by a 5-3 margin in the extra session, earning the narrow 48-46 win.
The Centerville Lady Bulldogs benefited from a 19-point flurry in the fourth quarter to force the overtime period.
Maurepas’ top scorers were: Lacy Loupe, 15; Brailie Gautreau, 12; Katie Lanoux, 9; Kiah Barthelemy, 7 and Adellia Motichek, 5
Centerville’s Nykeytra Kennedy led her team with 13 points followed by Alyrria Austin with 12. Rounding out the scoring for the CHS Lady Bulldogs were: Hailey McDaniel, 6; Kayla Robinson, 4; Olivia Thibodeaux, 4; Roshayla Gunner, 3; Jasmine Gunner, 3 and Kenaytra Kennedy, 1.
The boys and girls basketball teams will travel to Holden on Friday night.
