Hanson Lady Tigers defeat Highland Baptist Lady Lions
The Hanson Lady Tigers rode a 17-0 first-quarter run en route to a 42-13 victory over the Highland Baptish Lady Lions in District 7-A action Thursday at the Billy Gene Talbot Gym.
Casey Fitzgerald scored a game-high 15 points on three treys and three deuces to lead the Lady Tigers.
Hanson raced outfront by a 17-0 lead in the opening frame. At the half, the Hanson Lady Tigers soared ahead by a 28-7 margin. Hanson went on a 12-4 flurry in the third quarter for an insurmountable 40-11 advantage before icing away the 42-13 triumph.
Fitzgerald led the way for the Lady Tigers with 15 points on five field goals, including three treys and three deuces. Allyssa Young finished with eight points on one trey, a pair of deuces and 1 of 1 free throws. Haley Bollinger poured in a pair of treys for six points while Baylee Young recorded five points on two field goals and 1 of 2 charity shots. Stephanie Roig bagged four points and Sarah Sonnier tossed in two to round out the scoring for the Lady Tigers.
Erin Fleming scored 12 of Highland Baptist’s 13 points on the night. Hanson, currently ranked No. 13, finished the regular season with a 7-5 District 7-1A record.
The Hanson Memorial Lady Tigers will enter the state Class 1-A playoffs next week when pairings are announced.
