Lumberjacks rout Panthers 82-41

Patterson picked up at least a share of the District 9-3A title Tuesday with an 82-41 rout of Berwick in District 9-3A boys basketball action.
The Lumberjacks outscored the Panthers in every quarter, taking a 16-8 lead after the first quarter, a 41-25 lead at the half and a 61-33 advantage after three quarters.
Patterson (17-6), whose district record stands at 6-1, can clinch the outright district title with a win against Franklin Friday in Patterson. If the Lumberjacks lose, they would tie with Donaldsonville for the district title with a 6-2 mark. Donaldsonville finished its regular season Friday with a 64-49 win against Franklin.
In Patterson’s win Tuesday, Taylan Grogan led Patterson with 25 points, while Nehemiah Augustus and Jordan Butler also reached double figures with 14 and 10 points, respectively.
Other scorers for the Lumberjacks included Devontre Richard, nine; Daylon Charlot, Kenneth Washington, DJ Jones and Tyric Garrett, four points apiece; Terrence Singleton, three; and Mykel Jones and Malik Garrett, each two points.
Audwin Williams led Berwick with 13 points, while Kenan Jones also reached double figures with 10 points.
Other scorers for Berwick included Silton Span, Brandon Naverro, Larenz Clark and Cody Roberie, each with four points; and Josh Carver with two points.
Berwick (10-15 overall, 1-6 in district) will conclude its season when it hosts E.D. White in District 9-3A action. Junior varsity action is set for a 5:30 p.m. start and varsity will follow Senior Night ceremonies.
Central Catholic tops
Ascension Catholic
The Central Catholic Eagles picked up a 60-53 victory against Ascension Catholic in nondistrict action in Morgan City Monday.
Samarick Paul led the Eagles with 20 points, while Stefano Guarisco and Jalen Johnson each scored 13.
Central Catholic (13-12), ranked No. 9 in the latest unofficial Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 1A power rankings, will return to action today in a nondistrict contest that also will be a top 10 Class 1A matchup when it hosts No. 4 Metairie Park Country Day at 7 p.m. Country Day is the two-time defending Class 1A state champion.
The game will be broadcast on KBZE 105.9 FM and KFRA 1390 AM.
Morgan City wins
regular season finale
The Morgan City Tigers won their regular season finale with a 54-47 victory against Assumption in District 7-4A action in Napoleonville Monday.
Now, the Tigers just wait to see their ranking in both the district standings and the postseason.
Morgan City, who finished 6-2 in district play, can finish in a tie for first place in district play if Vandebilt Catholic defeats Ellender in both teams’ district finale tonight.
If Ellender wins, the Patriots would earn the district title outright.
In Monday’s win against Assumption, Brady Fryou led three Tigers in double figures with 13 points, while Deondre Walker scored 12 points and Abram Hartley, 10.
Other scorers for Morgan City (16-8) included Jaylen Jones, nine points; and Makye Richard and Taaj Daniels with five points each.
