JOYCE VERRET DUPRE THURSTON
September 15, 1933 — April 10, 2015
Joyce Verret Dupre Thurston, a native of Bayou L’Ourse, a former resident of the Patterson Health Care Center and a current resident of Bayou Vista, passed away Friday, April 10, 2015, at Teche Regional Medical Center.
Her family remembers Joyce as being the outspoken matriarch of their family. Her way was always the right way, always. She held many interests in life, taking photographs of still life and creating beautiful paintings from them, watching QVC and Westerns, spending time at the campground, playing Rummy her way, and cooking. Her family maintains that she made the BEST fried chicken and white beans. They are still learning how to TEACH the pot how to cook like her.
Those left to cherish Joyce’s memory are her husband of 32 years, Rollie Thurston; three children, Mitchel Dupre Jr. and his wife, Brenda, Karen Dupre, and Lonie Dupre Sr. and his wife, Jo Anne; one brother, Gilman Verret; 17 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren with two more on the way; and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three children, Vernon Dupre, Cheryl LaGarde and Elton Dupre; her parents, Elton and Lillian Verret; and her first husband and father of her children, Mitchel Dupre Sr.
The family requests that visitation be observed today, Monday, April 13, 2015, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and again Tuesday, April 14, 2015, from 9 a.m. until time of services at Hargrave Funeral Home. A Celebration of Joyce’s life will take place Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Hargrave Funeral Home. Joyce will be laid to rest in the St. Andrew Cemetery in Amelia.
