Patterson High School will look to play the spoiler role today when the No. 29 seed Lumberjills travel to face No. 4 Parkview Baptist in a 6 p.m. contest.
First-year Patterson head coach Chasity Toups said that the season has been unique.
“This season has definitely been one to remember,” she said. “I think it has rained this season more than any other, ever.”
Like other teams, Patterson (9-14) was hampered by weather during the final week of the regular season as Patterson’s two final regular season games were cancelled.
The time away from the diamond was a mixed bag.
“It gave us more time to work on skills, but those things were limited with us being inside,” she said. “I don’t think many teams were able to do what they wanted last week, dealing with practice and games.”
Patterson, who finished third in District 9-3A with a 2-2 mark, comes into the playoffs having won three of its last five games.
As for her team’s first round opponent, Toups said Parkview Baptist will be a solid opponent.
“We will just have to put everything that we know how to do together,” Toups said. “Our bats have been hot lately, and there's no better time than now to hit. Our defense will have to be sound, limiting our errors. There is no room for a ‘bad inning.’ If we put everything together, we can do it. It's just a matter of believing and having confidence in ourselves. Our mental game has to be the best it has ever been. It doesn't matter who we play, it matters how we play.”
