Movie ticket and T-shirt for blood donors

Around the Memorial Day holiday, United Blood Services gears up for family gatherings to pay tribute to those who gave their all while serving our country. Others head out of town for their first vacations of the summer. These activities lead to a decrease in blood donations.
However, patients in local hospitals are still in need of life-saving blood, plasma and platelets. Because of this decline in donations, UBS is offering donors a free movie ticket via Fandango.com and a “Southern Blood Forever” T-shirt! Movie tickets are being offered at select community blood drives throughout Acadiana.
You can donate at Franklin Foundation Hospital on Thursday, May 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., to receive your movie ticket and T-shirt.
“Memorial Day holiday is a time to celebrate those who have selflessly served our country. People are also excited about summer vacations and family gatherings. Unfortunately, patients in hospitals aren’t able to join in on these celebrations”, said Kimberly Dural, donor recruitment representative for United Blood Services. “We are asking the community to make time to celebrate life by donating blood while celebrating the holiday.”
As always, all blood types are needed in order to prevent any blood type shortages from occurring. Donors with negative blood types are asked to inquire with a United Blood Services staff member regarding qualifications to donate double red cells.
Donors can also go to the Lafayette Donor Center at 1503 Bertrand Drive. The center takes donors seven days a week: Monday 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Tuesday 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Wednesday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Donors can also visit unitedbloodservices.org the day of their donation and click on the “Health History Questionnaire.” This allows donors to complete the interview portion of their donation online, in the privacy of their home or office. Make sure to print your “Fast track donation ticket” and bring it with you to your donation.
Volunteer blood donors must be at least 16 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health.
Additional height and weight requirements apply to donors 22 and younger, and donors who are 16 years of age must have signed permission from a parent or guardian. The 16-year-old donor permit form can be located on the website. Donors receive a free cholesterol test. Donors also earn points in our “Hero in Me” online rewards store.
