New city prosecutor, fire chief will be named

Both a new fire chief and city prosecutor will be appointed at Tuesday’s Morgan City City Council meeting.
The city council will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the City Court Building.
Former Fire Chief Morris Price officially retired May 1, but had stepped down from leading the department in November 2014 to use vacation days he had accumulated over his 33 years as a firefighter.
Since November 2014, Mark Stephens had been leading the department as substitute fire chief.
City prosecutor Paul Landry, who also serves as city attorney, will relinquish his city prosecutor duties due to time constraints on his part, but will still serve as assistant city prosecutor, according to Mayor Frank “Boo” Grizzaffi said.
Landry had served as city prosecutor since November 2014, replacing Sostenes Ruiz III, who retired after 33 years as city prosecutor.
Guests at the council meeting include a Morgan City High School New Generations Dog Park proposal, a request to use Lawrence Park for “Rock the 5th” celebration and 16th Judicial District Court judge candidates Nick Larocca and Edmond L. “Eddie” Guidry.
Resolutions on the agenda include cooperative endeavor agreements regarding Livingston Parish Mosquito Abatement and St. Mary Parish School Board Youth Center, and selecting the city’s official journal.
During the meeting, an ordinance to amend and re-enact the city’s ordinance regarding one-way streets will go through a public hearing and then be available for adoption.
