Swampland play begins today

The annual Swampland Baseball League, in which high school summer teams participate, will kick off today with the Tri-City area’s four baseball teams in action.
The lone local game will feature Cardinal Lumber (Patterson High) making the short trip to face Skipper’s Sporting Goods (Morgan City) today at Tiger Diamond.
Meanwhile, Taco Bell (Berwick High) will travel to face Crawdaddy’s Seafood (Houma Christian) and Halimar Shipyard (Central Catholic) will play at BCG Services (Covenant Christian).
Teams will play through June 23. At fields with no lights, junior varsity games will begin at 3:30 p.m., followed by varsity contests.
For those fields that have lights, junior varsity games will begin at 5 p.m., while varsity will follow at 7 p.m.
In a new format, the top three teams from Divisions A and B will advance to the league’s annual tournament at Berwick High with the top team from each division receiving a first-round bye in the three-round event.
The single elimination tournament will conclude with the championship game June 26.
Division A consists of Braves (H.L. Bourgeois), Skipper’s Sporting Goods, Taco Bell, BCG Services, Cardinal Lumber, Halimar Shipyard and Crawdaddy’s Seafood.
Division B includes E.D. White’s summer team, Jester’s Court (Central Lafourche), Bayou Boys (South Lafourche), Reeco Rental (Thibodaux), Terrebonne’s summer league team, Robichaux Ford (Vandebilt Catholic) and South Louisiana Bank (South Terrebonne).
