Sheriff: Woman stole $1,000 from purse

A 32-year-old Patterson woman was accused Thursday of stealing more than $1,000 in cash out of a purse, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Lacasha Hartman, 32, of the 300 block of Ellis Street in Patterson, was arrested at 8:07 p.m. Thursday on the charge of theft. A deputy responded to a report of a theft that occurred in the Patterson area.
During the investigation, the deputy gathered evidence indicating that Hartman took more than $1,000 in cash from a victim’s purse, Hebert said. Hartman and the victim knew each other, the sheriff said. Hartman was jailed with no bail set.
Hebert reported responding to 49 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Adam W. Roy, 28, of the 700 block of Onstead Street in Morgan City, at 11:18 a.m. Thursday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of possession of cocaine. Roy turned himself in at the Morgan City Police Department. Roy was jailed with no bail set.
Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrests:
—Norman Carter, 51, of Morgan City, at 2:45 p.m. Thursday on a warrant charging him with two counts of contempt of court and on the charge of disturbing the peace intoxicated.
Carter was located in the Morgan City Municipal Court and appeared to be intoxicated. Carter also held active warrants for the Sixth Ward City Court. Carter was jailed.
—Jose J. Almaraz, 22, of Egle Street in Morgan City, at 12:36 a.m. today on the charge of appearing in public intoxicated.
A patrolling officer observed Almaraz walking in the area of Egle Street. Almaraz appeared to be intoxicated, Blair said. Almaraz was jailed.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrest:
—Ryan Stratton, 19, of Second Street in Berwick at 6:08 p.m. Thursday on the charge of monetary instrument abuse. Stratton was jailed.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
