Cardinal Lumber falls
to BCG Services
BCG Services (Covenant Christian) scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning for a 6-5 victory against Cardinal Lumber (Patterson High) in Houma Thursday.
While Cardinal Lumber had come back from 5-3 deficit in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 5, Covenant Christian took the win in the bottom of the frame with two outs.
Joel Singleton suffered the loss for Cardinal Lumber. In 6.2 innings, he surrendered six runs — two earned — on seven hits with one strikeout.
“Joel deserved to get the win on the mound tonight,” Cardinal Lumber coach Ryan Jensen said. “We couldn’t ask for anything more from him. Unfortunately, we just didn’t make enough plays in the last two innings to finish the job. We had a call go against us that played a big role as well, but if we make routine plays, we aren’t even in that situation. I was proud of the way we battled in the top of the seventh to tie it after the crazy bottom of the sixth. I thought that showed a lot of character.”
While BCG Services scored a run in the bottom of the second, Cardinal Lumber came back with a run in the top of the third and two more in the fourth for a 3-1 advantage.
BCG Services cut its deficit to 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth before plating three for a 5-3 lead in the bottom of the sixth.
Jamey Fabre led Cardinal Lumber with a 3-for-3 performance with two RBIs, while Singleton was 2-for-3 with a double.
Other top offensive contributors included Lukas Carnley, 1-for-3, two RBIs; and Bryce Beaubouef, 1-for-4, an RBI.
Cardinal Lumber (1-1) will return to action Monday when it again faces BCG Services at Patterson High. Junior varsity action will begin at 5 p.m. with varsity to follow at 7 p.m.
