Police: Morgan City man killed in two-vehicle crash in Bayou Vista
A 74-year-old Morgan City man died after a wreck on U.S. 90 in Bayou Vista Thursday morning when the car he was a passenger in failed to stop at a stop sign and was hit by a pickup truck, according to a state police Troop I news release.
Shortly before 8:50 a.m. Thursday Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash on U.S. 90 at Anthony Street in Bayou Vista. The crash claimed the life of Ed Francis, 74, of Morgan City, police said.
The initial investigation by state police revealed that the crash occurred as Robert Francis, 76, of Morgan City, was operating a 2005 Buick LeSabre traveling south on Anthony Street, police said. For reasons still under investigation, Robert Francis did not stop for the stop sign at the intersection of Anthony Street and U.S. 90 West and drove into the path of a 1994 GMC truck, operated by Preston Broussard, 60, of Baldwin, the release stated.
Robert Francis and one of his passengers were transported to Teche Regional Hospital with minor injuries,police said. Ed Francis suffered critical injuries and was transported to Teche Regional Hospital, police said. Ed Francis later died at the hospital from injuries sustained in the crash, police said. All three occupants were wearing seat belts, police said.
Broussard was wearing a seat belt and was not injured, the release said.
It is unknown if impairment is a factor in the crash. Routine toxicology samples were taken from Robert Francis and sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Broussard was given a Chemical Breath Test and was not impaired, police said.
This crash remains under investigation and charges are pending, police said.
