Sheriff: Woman took pills, hit man

A 40-year-old Bayou Vista woman, who was transported to the hospital after admitting to ingesting clonazepam and Soma pills, was also accused of striking a man in the face at a residence, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Jennifer Ludwig, 40, of the 300 block of La. 182 in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 7:01 p.m. Tuesday on the charges of domestic abuse battery, possession of Schedule IV Soma and possession of Legend Drug clonazepam without a prescription.
A deputy responded to a report of a medical emergency involving a disturbance at a residence in Bayou Vista and made contact with Ludwig. During the investigation, the deputy learned that Ludwig struck a man in the face, Hebert said. The man sustained minor injuries, Sheriff’s Office Spokeswoman Traci Landry said.
The deputy also located a pill bottle labeled with a prescription for clonazepam that was not prescribed to Ludwig, Hebert said.
The bottle contained Soma pills. Ludwig admitted to the deputy that she had consumed clonazepam and Soma pills prior to his arrival, the sheriff said.
The deputy transported Ludwig to Teche Regional Medical Center for evaluation, Hebert said. Following her release, Ludwig was jailed with no bail set.
Hebert reported responding to 39 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests relating to east St. Mary Parish:
—Terry L. Ratcliff, 43, of the 800 block of Railroad Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 8:01 a.m. Tuesday on the charges of theft of goods and illegal possession of stolen things.
A deputy investigating a complaint of shoplifting from a store in Bayou Vista identified Ratcliff as one of two people who loaded an air conditioning unit into a shopping buggy and left the store without paying for it, Hebert said.
The deputy located Ratcliff at her residence.
While speaking with the deputy, Ratcliff admitted that she took the AC unit. Ratcliff was jailed with bail set at $1,500. The investigation is ongoing, Hebert said.
—Peggy Fabre, 48, of the 300 block of Adams Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:07 p.m. Tuesday on the charge of theft of goods and on a warrant for issuing worthless checks.
A deputy responded to a complaint of shoplifting at a store in Bayou Vista and learned from store personnel that Fabre was seen taking a tag off of an umbrella.
Fabre then walked toward the front of the store passing the last point of sale without paying for the umbrella and a fan that she had also loaded into a shopping basket.
The deputy released Fabre on a summons to appear in court Sept. 16.
—Aubrey A. Corsaro, 26, of the 1700 block of River Road in Berwick, was arrested at 5:37 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. Corsaro turned himself in at the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office in Franklin. Bail is set at $1,500.
Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrests:
—Michael L. Hickman, 23, of Sulphur, was arrested at 7 p.m. Tuesday on warrants charging him with failure to pay fine for simple battery and failure to pay a fine for simple criminal damage to property.
Hickman turned himself in to the Morgan City Police Department for outstanding warrants for the Sixth Ward City Court. Hickman was jailed.
—Kanavia D. Jones, 29, of Birch Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:20 p.m. Tuesday on the charges of driving under suspension and no seat belt.
—Latasha Jones, 33, of Guzzetta Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:20 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant charging her with contempt of court for failure to appear for judgment debtor rule.
A patrolling officer in the area of Freret and Fifth streets noticed a vehicle with the driver not wearing a seat belt. The officer stopped the vehicle to investigate.
The driver, Kanavia Jones, was determined to have a suspended driver’s license, and passenger, Latasha Jones, had an active warrant for the Sixth Ward City Court. Both subjects were jailed.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrest:
—Donald Bennett, 46, of the 500 block of Williams Street in Patterson, was arrested at 8:18 p.m. Tuesday on a Patterson Police warrant charging him with three counts of simple battery. Bennett was jailed on $1,500 bail.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrest:
—Larry Eddy, 51, of the 200 block of California Street in Berwick, was arrested at 7:10 p.m. Tuesday on the charge of disturbing the peace intoxicated. Eddy was jailed.
