WSM Flight Ballers to compete in AAU National Championship Tourney

Fifteen members composing the West St. Mary Flight Ballers will participate in the AAU Boys Basketball 12U Division II National Championship Tournament being held July 16 through July 22 at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton, Virginia.
Opening ceremonies for the AAU Boys Basketball 12U Division II National Championship is Thursday, July 16 at 7 p.m. with mandatory attendance.
The WSM Flight Ballers _ who won the 2015 Louisiana State Championship _ is composed of 15 players who reside between the cities of Morgan City to Jeanerette.
Team members are: Terran Ballet; Davidyion Bias; Johnny Clark Bryson Colbert; Nylan Francis, Dillion Gunner; Trevion Jackson, Tyran Jones; Donald Lewis III; Dillon Monette; Davontre Nathan; Gharin Stansbury; Taylor Tallmore; Ronald Washington and Travis Zeno. Coaches of the team are Edwin Colbert; Dariel Delasbour and Donald Ray Grimm.
According to West St. Mary Sports Director Donald Grimm, the West St. Mary Flight Ballers are currently completing their second year of existence after receiving great sponsorship from the West St. Mary Civic Center located in Sorrell.
As a highly successful unit, the WSM Ballers captured four national tournament titles over the course of the season, qualifying for the AAU National Tournament in Hampton, Virginia.
The WSM Flight Ballers won tournaments in San Antonio, Texas and two in the New Orleans, including the Super 60 and the Governor’s Tournament, along with a first place finish in a Monroe, Louisiana Tournament.
The WSM Flight Ballers easily qualified for the AAU Boys Basketball 12U Tournament through the AAU Qualifying Procedures to compete in the National Championship Tournament which will be hosted by the Boo Williams Summer League & The Hampton CVB Boo at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton, Virginia.
“Our 12U have been admitted to play in nationals as we received the call and we will be leaving on July 14 with us being there until July 23,” Grimm said. “We are expecting to go and win a national championship as we don’t want to settle for nothing less. I think the kids are ready to go. We have been having good practices and the kids are eager and excited and we don’t just teach basketball, but also through our mentoring we teach kids when they go places how to conduct themselves and we have an average of 3.5 overall for these kids which is a great incentive.”
Grimm is inviting everyone to come out to the St. Mary Civic Center on Thursday, July 9 for Family Night to help sponsor the WSM Flight Ballers upcoming trip to the AAU Boys Basketball 12U Division II National Championship Tournament.
“Everyone is invited to Family Night on July 9th as I’m calling it Sponsorship Night and I’m saying it as a minister, if you want to be blessed, come and bless some of these kids.”
The National Championship Tournament will be played up the 2014-2015 National Federation of State High School Association rules, except where amended by the AAU Boys’ Basketball Handbook. The game format will consist of four -7 minute quarters with five minute halftime/warmup and 3-minute overtime. The tournament format will have registration set for July 16 with pool play set for July 17 through July 19. Championship Bracket play will be held July 20 through July 22 with each team playing one game per day during pool play and one or two games a day during bracket play. Each athlete and registered coach on the top ten finishing teams in the championship bracket will receive a finalist medal and a team trophy. Each athlete and registered coach on the top four finishing teams in the Classic Bracket will receive a finalist medal and team trophy.
