GUS J. FONTENOT

November 9, 1921 — July 3, 2015
Gus J. Fontenot passed away peacefully in Houston on July 3, 2015, at the age of 93.
He was born on Nov. 9, 1921, to August and Pauline Fontenot in Esterwood, Louisiana.
Gus lived a long, rewarding life as a loving husband, father and a compassionate mentor to many along his life’s journey.
Gus was a creative retail merchant, longtime active church and community leader in Morgan City, Louisiana, where he lived for many years. His enthusiastic theatrical talent was instrumental in the organization of many Morgan City arts and festival events.
Gus continued his lifelong commitment to helping others by volunteering at Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center for 13 years after moving to Houston in 1996.
His love and devotion to his wife Mable was unquestioned by the many years he spent caring for her during her longtime struggle with cardiovascular illness. She died in 1991. His last request was to be put to rest alongside her in peace.
Gus is survived by his son, Michael and wife Debbie; along with many loving friends and family members.
A memorial mass to celebrate his life will be held Thursday, July 16, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Cecilia Catholic Church, 11720 Joan of Arc Drive, Houston, Texas 77024. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 18, 2015, at Woodlawn Mausoleum, 1600 S. Avenue F, Crowley, Louisiana 70526.
